The short answer is yes, Dunkin’ Donuts will refill your travel mug.
But it’s not always so simple.
There are plenty of stories of people who brought their own tumbler into a Dunkin’ Donuts and were rejected.
Or the staff simply made them a drink as they normally would in one of their disposable cups, then poured that drink into their thermos, thereby defeating the whole purpose.
So what gives?
Why are some people allowed to use their own tumblers, while others are not?
Dunkin Donuts Refill Cup Policy
There seems to be a bit variation from one location to the next, but the general corporate policy seems to be this.
If you bring a reusable mug, they will fill it with hot coffee and charge you for the price of a small coffee or a refill, even if your mug is much larger.
You can either bring your own tumbler, like one of these ceramic travel coffee mugs, or a Dunkin Donuts travel mug. Naturally, if you bring in a 50 ounce tub, they will probably want to charge you more. The largest tumbler size they sell on their own store is 24 ounces, so anything up to that size should be fine.
With drinks other than hot coffee, the policy seems to vary much more from store to store. Anything that needs to be mixed or blended, like a latte, they will not generally make in your mug. The main reason is that they can’t measure the amounts out exactly in a cup with which they are not familiar.
When it comes to other non-blended drinks, like iced coffee, cold brew, tea, and hot chocolate, they will usually have no problem filling it into your reusable travel mug. But again, this can vary from store to store.
In general if you order a drink that does not need to be mixed, like hot coffee, iced coffee, cold brew, tea, and hot chocolate, you can get it filled into your own tumbler and you will pay much less for it, as well. It definitely pays to bring your own cup; both for you and for the environment.
